Buch Rezension zu “People and Moment of Kamalapur Railway Station”

“People and Moment of Kamalapur Railway Station” ist so ein rares Schätzchen.

Weiter so, Rony. Zeig uns Straßenfotografen aus aller Welt Deine Sicht der Dinge und wie Du Deinen Teil der Welt erlebst.

Book review of “People and Moment of Kamalapur Railway Station”

There are many books about street photography on the market. Books about street photography in Bangladesh are a bit rarer. “People and Moment of Kamalapur Railway Station” is such a rare treasure. Author is Sabbir Ahmed Khan, called Rony, freelance photographer and street photographer from Dhaka. The book was published in January 2018.

The subject of the book is life and bustle at Kamalapur railway station. This is the central station of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh with its 16 million inhabitants and by far the largest city in Bangladesh. 35% of the country’s urban population lives in Dhaka.

Against this background the reader imagines, as expected, a wild bustle, a colourful conglomerate and perhaps chaos, an overload of scenes and colours… and is surprised by quiet individual portraits on seemingly deserted platforms and in train compartments. Children smile merrily into the camera, adults are busy with their smartphones like everywhere else in the world, there is a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere all over.

But the fact that these are rail scenes beyond the regulations of a DB, ÖBB or SBB can be seen in photos of people who, for example, quietly read their newspaper on the roof of a wagon or transport bicycles on the roof of a wagon or, as blind people, simply cross railway tracks.

If you want to know more about the author Rony Khan or get in touch with him, please refer to the interview in the Soul of Street blog. He is a photographer by profession and is currently setting up his own business. He does street photography to relax and entertain others. He knows that you can’t make money with street photography in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, wedding photography is the most lucrative sector and a highly competitive market.

And maybe that’s the reason why it’s not a good, solid book about street photography, but an excellent one. Everything you photograph with love becomes a success. When the love for the people on the street is combined with technical expertise and solid photographic craftsmanship – the image compositions are a pleasure for every photographic eye – such a jewel is created.

Keep it up, Rony. Show us street photographers from all over the world your view of things and how you experience your part of the world.
